New Developments Around Penrose

While many thought that the Kallang Basin area has already completed its facelift, Sports Singapore announced in Aug 2019 that the transformation of the area is only midway. The project, termed “Kallang Alive”, consists of five other complimentary buildings to the existing Singapore Sports Hub, namely the Singapore Tennis Centre, Kallang Football Hub, Alive Gateway and Loop, Benaan Kapal Green, and the redevelopment of the Kallang Theatre with its adjoining areas into an integrated entertainment, sport, and lifestyle centre. Residents of Penrose condo will get to enjoy the new Jalan Benaan Kapal waterfront, where an active community park space will be coming up. The waterfront can have park connectors, riverside lookout points, and a multi-generational ‘enabling gym’ for all those residing the vicinity to enjoy.

GEYLANG

Geylang is the township along the city fringe east of the Central Business District. Geylang Road and its parallel Sims Avenue, stretching from Kallang MRT to Paya Lebar MRT station, is best known for its low rise, conservation shop houses that gives this district its unique flavour. This was where one of the oldest Malay settlements in Singapore is located, and many of the Malay architecture and design of old can be seen preserved in the murals and appearance of these shop houses. Today, the Geylang Planning Area is sub-divided into five zones, of which Penrose is sited within Aljunied, and just South of Kallang Way.

By doing so, they achieved synergy through collaborations like precinct-wide recreational and community events to promote Paya Lebar as an active and lively precinct. Together with the older shopping centers of Tanjong Katong Complex, City Plaza and Kinex, the region has become a must-go shopping destination for residents of Penrose who are looking for unique wares or authentic Malay and Peranakan cuisines. The new Wisma Geylang Serai (WGS) is the community cultural and civic centre in the Geylang Serai and Joo Chiat area.
